A native of Germantown, born and raised in the Germantown since birth. Married to Wanda Freeman Barzizza, adult children are Christine B. Yarbro, Kimberley Jean B. Dionne, John, Jr, Justin and God-child, Marlee Howard Allison, and grandchildren Christopher Yarbro, Michael Yarbro, Miller Dionne and Olivia Allison.
Attends Church of the Holy Spirit and served on the original capital campaign.
Attended St. Anne, St. Dominic Catholic Schools and Christian Brothers High School.
Graduated from Regis University in Denver Colorado with a BS degree in Marketing. Served in the Student Government General Assembly 2 years and various clubs while in school. Started the Regis University Track Club.
Served in the United States Naval Air Reserves.
Joined the family in business Southwestern Distributing Co. Became President and General Manager seven years later.
With brother Gene Barzizza started Specialty Beverages, Inc. dba: Southwestern Beverages, selling beer and non-alcoholic products. Also served on the board of American Molded Plastics for four years.
Elected to the St. Dominic School Alumni Association Board in 2014. Elected to the St. Dominic School Hall of Fame in 2017.
With the help of three other alumni, re-started and served on the Christian Brothers High School Alumni Association for 10 years, served as president.
Elected to the Christian Brothers High Hall of Fame, served as President from 1999-2001.
Elected to the Christian Brothers High School Board of Directors, served for 9 years.
Served on the school’s first capital campaign committee since the school was built on Walnut Grove and have advised and networked for the new Capital Campaign which started in Jan., 2015 .
Elected as the Christian Brothers High School Distinguished Alumnus in 2016.
Served on the Board of Directors of the Germantown High School Football “Touch Down” Club and served as President.
Coached basketball and baseball for nine years in the Germantown Youth Athletic Association. Coached St. Georges Germantown 5th and 6th grades boys basketball team.
Elected to the Board of Directors at SRVS (Shelby Residential and Vocational Services).
Served as Chairman of the Board for two 2 year terms.
Chaired the SRVS Capital Campaign from 2008-2011 raising over $5.5 million during the campaign. (SRVS is a Non Profit organization to benefit the intellectually disabled). Currently serve as the Development Committee Chairman for SRVS.
Served as lobby at the Capital in Nashville for beverage industry related matters and also for the intellectually disabled representing SRVS and the state association of providers, Tennessee Community Organizations (TNCO). Selected in 2012 as the TNCO Volunteer of the Year in the State of Tennessee.
John is an active member of the Germantown Community and currently serves as a City Alderman.
